At times I find myself in a state where things just doesn’t seem to be going my way. I look at my life and I wonder what happened, (because “I’m suppose to be” 6 foot 3, 225lbs all muscle and worth $500 million… hehe). I ask how did I get here, and know that there’s got to be more to life than what I’m experiencing. Does that ever happen to you? These are questions I ask myself often and seriously they are great questions to ask… but here’s where it gets shaky…
Do you ever complain about your circumstances? Bitch and moan because life has been challenging you? Ever ask why you don’t drive that nice newer car or why you don’t have that extraordinary dream relationship!? If you’re anything like me you’ve had or are having similar thoughts.
So here’s the bad news… You’re not driving the car of your dreams because you’re treating your current car like trash i.e. fast food bags and paper work all over the place. Even if you bitch and moan life is still going to challenge you and it’s going to get even harder. It’s no coincidence why the dead beat you’re with now is just like the dead beat you were with before… Chances are this isn’t the first time that’s happened either…
So what’s the solution you ask? It’s simple… Water your grass!
WTF!?
Yeah I know that sounds crazy… some of you probably live in apartments or have landscapers so you’re probably confused. I can understand that… but hear me out…
I’ve found the reason we complain and feel inadequate about life is because we’re always looking at other people’s “achievements”. We see what they have and we want it. Many times we’re upset because we feel that it’s unfair for that person to have what we don’t. Are any of these statements ringing a bell for you? If so read on…
So we find ourselves noticing that the grass does appear to be greener on the other side… The harsh truth is that the grass probably IS greener!
Sucks I know… but with bad news there’s always good news… and the good news is that the grass is only greener on the other side because you haven’t watered the grass you’re standing on!!!
That’s why I chuckle when I hear people say, “the grass ain’t always greener on the other side…”. I find that many times it is but here’s the sneaky part. We often, if not always, do go over to that greener side but then refuse to water that grass too hence the birth of the cliche.
You know what I’m talking about… like that new job you landed with the bigger paycheck and nicer cubicle… that new business opportunity that was “better” than the last… like when you finally got out of that apartment and bought your first home… or like when you finally went from being single to being engaged/married… You just knew you wouldn’t have the same problems you’ve had before. Let me ask you this… did you find all your troubles gone or did you notice the grass starting to look familiar?
For me the grass always started to die soon after I jumped ship but then I learned something. I learned one of the most important lessons of my life. This lesson taught me not only how to get my grass greener but also how to expand my green territory. I’m going to share that lesson with you in part 2 of this post and I’m crazy excited to do so. So subscribe below or check back soon for part 2… until then lets get the BEST out of life!

UPDATE: You can find the second part of this post here.

Wow, I’m watering my grass starting NOW!
@Jonnelle Nice! It’s that definitive action that separates the best from the rest…
I too have bega watering my grass, but because of this I am considering a higher quality of H2O… WHAT POWERFUL INSIGHT! I completely agree and I’m glad you have brought this out to the light. I thinking we often feel as if the grass is already greener on the other side then when we cross over to it, it will remain in that same state. Well no, because it’s almost like getting a new car. When it is brand new of course it runs, smells, looks and does/has everything better than the car you’re currently driving. Yet, as soon as you begin driving the new car… It becomes just like the car you had before.
Thanks Jarmar! Can’t wait for part2 of this post. Iam quite sure if some people take heed to it, it will CHANGE THEIR LIFE!!!
@Krysonia Thank YOU Krysonia… your comparison is on point… Higher quality H20… LOL… That’s HIGH-larious!!!
Hi Jarmar,
For things to improve in our life we need to be grateful for what we have right now. So I agree with you we need to water our own garden and as we do wonderful things will grow. Thanks for the insights. Deirdre
@Deirdre
You’re absolutely right and thanks for the kind words… it all starts with grateful heart!
Jarmar,
Great Post Man! Focus on what you’ve got and what you’ve achieved and keep raising your goals and working to achieve them…Water Your Grass. Love it!
Jordan Schultz
Absolutely Jordan!
Thanks for the praise and let me say thanks for the awesome call you hosted last night! Good stuff!!!
Jarmar,
that’s why the true entrepreneur praises the neighbor’s lawn and tells as many people as possible to do the same… when my attitude starts as that of encourager I free my mind to learn how to improve my lot because I’m focused on what it can be rather than what it is.
@David
Being an encourager is something we should all focus on… thanks for the insight and contributing!!!
Hey Jarmar…
Cool insight bro! I guess the reason why many don’t water their grass is because they don’t even realize they have any in the first place. When we focus on what we do have, what we don’t fades away instantly.

I just found your blog today, but I had to comment. Talk about a real life lesson. Water your own S#*T, that’s how you get to happy. I love it. Thank you for sharing this.
this was so helpful and appropriate for me. I’m constantly thinking if I change jobs or relocate my life will instantly change .ill meet the man of my dreams I’ll have a busy social calendar I’ll experience life. I don’t even attempt to do those things now so why would I do them ” where the grass is greener” I need to stop making excuses and experience the grass im on now. Thanks
