Prosper Where You’re Planted

Watering GrassThe Secret To Greener Grass And Expanded Territory!

After a fun The Grass IS Greener On The Other Side chat I could hardly wait to release this, part 2, version of the post.  Many people asked questions, gave praise, and some even took action.  One of the big questions was HOW to water your grass and exactly what the hell did I mean by that in the first place and we’re going to get into that now.  So if you haven’t read part 1 yet you might want to do that first here.

This is based on the concept of prospering where you’re planted.

It’s actually quite simple but people often underestimate the dignity of simplicity… In fact my life revolves around it… I’ve made a pledge to live by that very mantra and it has served and is serving me very well!

Watering your grass really boils down to what it sounds like,  nurture and care for the ground that’s under your feet.  While we’re busy gazing at other people’s grass we tend to neglect our own and neglect leads to death in any situation.   It is, however, a very innocent mistake we often make yet sneaky and paralyzing at the same time… especially for those of us that are highly ambitious.

I know one of my biggest problems was that I would have my eyes set on the next step before finishing the step that I was on… I wanted to run world class sprints before I could even manage to walk on two feet…  Do you find that your ambitions get ahead of you like that?  That battle continues in my head more often than I would like BUT the lesson I’m here to share with you has helped me tremendously.  This lesson as I told you before absolutely changed my life.  What’s that lesson you ask?

Learning to prosper where you’re planted!

It really comes down to making the most of what you have now by maximizing the potential of your current situation.  To do this takes an abundant and grateful mindset.  If you’re not grateful for the little patch of grass you have now you’re probably not going take care of it and if you don’t take care of it you won’t be given anymore to care for.  Even if you are given more you probably won’t take care of it if you haven’t developed a grateful mindset.  This is why a lot of “successful” people are depressed… accomplishment without appreciation is worthless.  We usually don’t learn from things we don’t respect or appreciate so we can’t expect to be ready for more of what life has to offer.

One real world example happened about 2 years ago: It was tax time and a good friend of mine was a bit bothered.  You see his accountant couldn’t account for $300,000 that somehow seemingly disappeared.  That’s right… THREE – HUNDRED – THOUSAND – DOLLARS!!!  The 2 year ago version of me flipped and was rather frantic for my friend.  YET… he wasn’t frantic at all, in fact he was quite calm and was in a weird state of confidence.

You see my patch of grass wasn’t as big as his acres of grass for a reason.  I wasn’t equipped to manage that much grass.  Sure I wanted his lifestyle and money but I didn’t have the tools, know how, nor the guts it takes to handle such a situation.  My $300 problems were causing major stress in my life… just imagine a thousand times that… LOL… The old saying is something like, “to whom much is given much is required”.  You’re not a millionaire because you don’t think, act, and respond like a millionaire.

So whenever I want to HAVE something or accomplish a feat I ask myself… “Am I who I need to be…”.  If I’m not, which it is in most cases, I figure out what things I personally need to work on and become better at in order to have and HANDLE said goal… and then things usually began to flow my way.  (Apply this is your relationships as well it’ll work wonders!!!)  There’s a post coming on exactly how I do this so I won’t go into the details right now but just know you should be careful to receive things before you’re ready for them.  (i.e. a house is a wonderful thing to have but there are tons of people losing them through foreclosure because of their inability to HANDLE their situation…)

So there you have it… the secret to greener grass and expanded territory lies in your ability to prosper where you are today so you can increase capacity to receive more.  Appreciate your life and where you are, focus on making it to best it can be, and then watch your grass grow.  I promise if you do this then you probably won’t have time to gaze at others people’s grass and when you do look you’ll start noticing weeds that you probably would have never seen before!!!
